Course Objectives 1. To discuss the modernity phenomenon.
2. To examine modernity’s effects on culture.
3. to gain the skill to interpret art not only as an aesthetic value but also as a cultural asset.
Course Description Introduction to the development of Western art in the modern age. Discussion of the modernity concept. Impact of the Industrial Revolution on the visual culture and its effects on science, technology, art, politics, economy, etc. Determining the situation in Türkiye. Analyzing the development of Western culture in Turkish art and culture. The criticism of modernity.
Course Outcomes Students will be able to:
I. evaluate an artwork as an aesthetic and cultural object,
II. comprehend modernity phenomenon through an artwork,
III. learning the active role of cultural change in the form and meaning of art,
IV. read the deconstruction of modernity in the twentieth century,
V. comprehend contemporary issues through their formation process,
VI. analyze the reflections of all these developments in Türkiye and Turkish art.
