SNT 104 - Mythology and Art

Course Objectives

1. to provide to get knowledge about the importance of Mythology as a remarkable source of inspiration, and in the formation of culture and civilizations,
2. to provide a rich and multi-perspectival point of view to the Art, History and Culture,
3. to provide to get knowledge about different eras and styles in the History of Art,
4. to provide different understandings of Beauty through history of art, in this way to provide a rich and multi dimensional esthetical sensibility and thus to cultivate designing creativity.

Course Description

Mythology, The Birth of Mythology, Causes of different mythologies in different cultures, The sources of Greek and Roman Mythology, Formation of Cosmos in Greek Mythology, The Fundamental Personalities and Myths in Greek Mythology
Mythological scenes in Ancient Greek Art and Hellenistic Art, Stylistic and conceptual differences in Mythological depictions in the artistic periods and art movements like the Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque art, Rococo, Neo-Classical art, Academic Art, Romanticism, Pre-Raphaelite, Symbolism Mythological depictions in Modern and Postmodern art
