JDM 633E - Carbonate and Evaporite
Course Objectives
This course addresses key fundamentals of carbonate and evaporite sediments and rocks mineralogy, chemistry, texture, sedimentary structures, sedimentary environments, depositional processes and controlling factors, diagenesis processes and controlling factors, application of evaporite formations in oil and gas exploration and mineral sources, and salt diapers tectonics.

- Carbonate and evaporite mineralogy and geochemistry.
- Carbonate and evaporite fabric, texture, and sedimentary structures.
- Carbonate and evaporite minerals identifications under polarizing microscope and classifications.
- Carbonate and evaporite deposition and diagenesis processes, and sedimentary environments.
- Tectono-sedimentary evolution of carbonate and evaporites sedimentary basins.
- Application of carbonate and evaporite geology in petroleum and gas exploration, and mineral resources.
- Salt Domes tectonics.
