UZB 318E - Finite Element Method

Course Objectives

Engineering problems are most often modeled in terms of partial differential equations. The objective of the course is to teach students to numerically solve stress, thermal and fluid flow analysis problems governed by various types of differential equations using the finite element method. The fundamental ideas of the finite element method, and the behavior and usage of each type of elements are teached in the course. In the course the students will be able to prepare a suitable finite element model for a engineering given problem.

Course Description

Direct finite element method; truss anaylsis; variational and weighted residual methods; principle of minimum potential energy; plane and three-dimensional stress analysis; heat transfer and fluid mechanics problems; isoparametric elements; transient analysis; eigenvalue problems: applications with computer programs.
