Course Objectives This course is designed to provide an introduction to land use planning, focusing on a small residential area. Gain experience in collecting and analyzing data and information on the key components of land use plans.
Course Description Land use planning is considered as a key tool used in the planning and design of the natural, artificial and socio-economic environment according to the needs for local governments. In this respect, it has effects that reach the society directly. Urban planners and designers have the task of reflecting all changes and developments related to environmental systems, political and economic forces to land use planning. Planners and designers seek solutions by using their knowledge, technical and political skills, problem-solving and creativity skills in the process of creating a common vision for future land use or urban plan.
Course Outcomes Understands the nature of planning and its need in society,
Knows the basic principles in planning and the relationships between different planning tasks (spatial planning, regional planning and land use planning);
Explain the nature and objectives of land use planning,
Know planning principles and land use planning methods and can apply them to solve specific problems,
Understand and explain the technical, economic, legal, social and ecological characteristics of land use planning,
Identify and analyze land use issues and create future land use scenarios.
