EUT 334 - Design and Form

Course Objectives

Definition of form as a tool in design. Establishment of form user communication through relations with design. Relations with form: Form-function, form-structure, form- materials, form-details, form-finish of the object. Designer's investigation of the context: seeing, perceiving, thinking, comparing. Sources of the form transformation: nature, objects, technology, human movements and habits, design trends

Course Description

In this course students will be engaged with form giving process in designing activity, through experimentation, readings, screenings, discussions and creative projects. Instead of looking at the design problem in their whole complexity, students will be allowed to concentrate on singular formal features of products. We will attempt to arrive at an understanding of how ideas embodied as 2 or 3 dimensional forms. Students will be encouraged to experiment shape, form, texture, color, emotions, material, function and their relations. Inspirational sources of designers and methods will be discussed. Cognitive basis of problem solving will be introduced in the context of design and form.
