Course Objectives The aim of the course is to provide students to use the methods, equipment and quality knowledge in the layout process taking into account already acquainted basic surveying subjects. In addition students are aimed to have the ability of design and
implement the horizontal and vertical geometries of transportation structures by taking into account the required constraints such as cost/benefit depending on the topography and also using the digital terrain models.
Course Description It is a course with the topics of the basic knowledge and stages on the layout process with the calculations and analyses to optimize by assuming the basic surveying concepts are given in previous courses.
Course Outcomes 1 define the engineering services and stages for transportation structures,
2 explain the layout processes and calculates the layout elements,
3 State the parameters effecting the layout process and calculate the qualitycriteria,
4 choose the proper method and equipment according to the quality requirements
5 relate the design of the horizontal and vertical geometries of the transportationstructures interactively,
6 identify and apply the geometrical features of the alignment structures used inthe geometrical design of transportation structures,
7 compute the magnitudes required for horizontal and vertical geometries of thetransportation structures,
8 implement the geometries of engineering projects on the digital terrain models,
9 decide and defend the optimal geometrical solution for the engineering projecton digital terrain model by taking into account the cost and geometricalconstraints.
