Course Objectives 1. To have knowledge about Power generation
2. To have knowledge about operating principles of power plant
3. To calculate cost of electrical energy for power plants,
4. To learn synchronous machines and their operation,control and protection
5. To have knowledge about Load allocation in power plants
Course Description Introduction to power generation.. Knowledge about operation and installation of steam plants, gas turbine plants, hydro electric power plants, cogeneration plants, combined cycle power plants, nuclear power plants. Power generation with renewable energy sources.
Load–frequency control. The exciting systems of synchronous machines. Protection methods in power plants. Measurement methods in power plants.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to;
1. Understand the operating principles of the power plants,
2. Calculate cost of electrical energy for power plants,
3. Learn Load frequency control,
4. Generate power using renewable energy sources
5. Design protection and measurement in power plants
