Course Objectives This course aims to develop an understanding of fundamental aggregate macroeconomic variables and concepts such as national income, growth, productivity, unemployment, inflation, and economic fluctuations. We look at how these macro variables are defined and measured; identify the basic observed trends in related macro data; explore their causes and effects; explore how they relate to each other and their relevance to economic policymaking. The latter half of the course will focus on the implications of an open economy context for these macroeconomic variables, through the exploration of international trade, capital flows, exchange rates, and balance of payments.
