Course Objectives
1. To introduce bases of thermodynamic cycles (Second Law),
2. To teach about bases of heat design of engineering systems.
Course Description
Availability. Second law applications. Analysis of thermodynamic cycles. Gas power systems (Carnot cycle, air standard assumptions for Otto cycle, Diesel cycle, Brayton cycle with intercooling, reheating, regeneration etc.). Vapor power systems. Refrigeration and heat pumps. Chemical reaction and combustion. Formation enthalpy. Applications of first law. Adiabatic flame temperature. Absolute entropy and third law of thermodynamics.
