Course Objectives
1. To teach about the basic functions of machinery elements.
2. To give knowledge about machinery elements.
Course Description
Construction of machinery elements. Continuous strength methodology and fatigue strength of mechanical elements. Safety concepts. Methods and elements of fastening and joining. Welded, soldered, adhesive bonded and riveted joints. Shaft-hub connections. Bolted joints and power screws. Mechanical springs. Gears. Shafts, axles, coupling and clutches. Friction, wear, lubricants, theory of fluid film lubrication, sliding and rolling bearings.
Course Outcomes
Students who pass the course will be able to;
I. Learn about fundamental principles for construction, calculation and design of machinery elements.
II. Learn about continuous strength methodology and fatigue strength of mechanical elements.
III. Learn safety concepts.
IV. Learn about fastening and joining of materials.
V. Learn about mechanical springs, gears, shafts, axles, coupling and clutches.
VI. Learn about friction, wear, lubricants, and lubrication theory, sliding and rolling bearings.
