MAK 202E - Numerical Meth.for Mech. Eng.

Course Objectives

1. Understand the numerical methods (implications of digital number representation and digital arithmetic) and learn the numerical methods for computational science and engineering applications.
2. Get skill how numerical methods can be applied for the solutions of a wide range problems in science and engineering problems.

Course Description

Introduction to Numerical Methods: Algorithms, numerical error. Solutions of a single non-linear equation: Direct and Iteration, Bisection Method, Newton-Raphson and Secant Methods. Solutions of systems of linear equations (Gauss Elimination, LU Decomposition, Iterative Methods). Interpolation. Curve Fitting. Numerical Differentiation and Integration. Finite-difference solutions of ordinary differential equations.
