Course Description

Importance of geological maps in engineering projects. Linear and planar structures. Topographic maps and cross sections. Solving geological problems by means of structural contours. V-rules. Surficial geological units. Map pattern and cross sections of undeformed areas. Map pattern and cross sections of folded beds. Map pattern and cross sections of unconformities. Map pattern and cross sections of faulted regions. Map pattern and cross sections of magmatic and metamorphic units. Morphology-geology relationship. Interpretation of geological maps. Remote sensing methods using for geological interpretations. Computer programs used to draw geological maps (ArcGIS and QGIS).
