MAD 254E - Strngth of Mat.for Mining Eng.

Course Objectives

The objective of the course is to teach students basic knowledge and provide the necessary skills
for performing engineering calculations and designs considering state of stress, strain, failure,
torsion and shear and basic load phenomenon related to strength of materials covering mining
engineering discipline.

Course Description

Internal forces definition and drawing diagrams. State of stress definition, transformation formulae
demonstration and Mohr’s circle. State of strain, transformation formulae demonstration and
Mohr’s circle. Mechanical properties of the materials, materials basic constant definition, strainstress relationship. Failure criteria definition depending on stress, strain and energy hypothesis.
Introduction to rods, axial (normal) force, shear force, torsion, pure bending moment definiton.
