MAD 361 - Ore Deposits

Course Objectives

Introducing the concept of ore deposits with related terminology; classification of ore deposits on the basis of the principles of ore genesis; giving information about the relationships with host rocks of ore deposits and the factors that lead to mineralization and criteria for evaluation of mineral deposits; Giving information about important ore deposit types from Turkey and the world ; Discussing contribution of mining to the national economy and the environmental effects of mining activities from a sustainability perspective.

Course Description

Explaining the concept of mineral deposit using relevant terminology; Position of mineral deposits in the geochemical cycle; plate tectonics-mineral deposits relationship; the classification of mineral deposits; relationships with host rocks of ores; criteria for evaluation of mineral deposits; the main formation theories of ore deposits, an important mineral deposit samples from Turkey and the world (Orthomagmatic Cr, diamond, Fe, Ti, Ni, Cu deposits, pneumo-hydrothermal Cu, Pb, Zn, Au, W, Sn, Mo deposits, sedimentary Fe, Mn, Al, P deposits , placer deposits, supergene enrichment) and contribution of mining to the national economy, sustainable use of natural resources and its environmental impact.
