JEO 223E - Paleontology

Course Objectives

Bu derste öğrenciler, fosil kayıtları aracılığıyla ortaya çıkarılan Dünya'nın jeolojik geçmişinin büyüleyici dünyasını keşfedecekler. Program boyunca öğrenciler, jeolojik arşivlerde silinmez izler bırakan eski yaşam formlarının somut kalıntılarını ve davranışlarının izlerini yakından inceleyecekler.

Course Description

In this course, we will see the methodologies employed by scientists to investigate various aspects of fossil organisms, including their age, environments, evolution, origin, biology, behavior, and extinction. Throughout our exploration, several overarching themes will be addressed:

1. We will navigate the immense scales of both geological and evolutionary time, gaining an understanding of the staggering epochs that have shaped Earth's history.

2. Our journey will encompass the intricacies of biological evolution, delving into the origins, evolutionary trajectories, diversification, and occasional extinctions of different branches within the Tree of Life.
