PET 338E - Applied Subsurface Geology for Oil & Gas Resources
Course Objectives
1. To demonstrate geological applications and techniques in the exploration and production of oil and gas reserves,
2. To introduce versatile solutions to subsurface problems,
3. To introduce methods of interpretation for subsurface maps and correlations.
Course Description
Fundamental concepts and principles of applied subsurface geology. Facies analysis, correlation techniques, and sequence and seismic stratigraphy. Nature, origin of structural features of Earth's crust, and structural controls on oil and gas entrapment. Structural patterns and associations in the known oil and gas fields, examples from across the globe. Structural geometry, mapping, and cross-section interpretations. Seismic reflection and wellsite geological data interpretations. Geological principles and applications in hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation.
