JEO 445E - Petroleum and Natural Gas Geology

Course Objectives

The main objectives of this course are to introduce the student to: (1) basic geological concepts of generation, migration and accumulation of petroleum and natural gas to form economic reserves, and (2) applications of geological concepts and techniques in exploration for and production of petroleum and gas reserves.

Course Description

This course covers the basic concepts of the generation of petroleum and natural gas in source rocks, their migration to reservoir rocks and their accumulation in various types of traps in the subsurface. The course also introduces the geological concepts and techniques applied to exploration for and production of petroleum and natural gas.
