NAE 312 - Ship Design

Course Objectives

Definition of ship characteristics, production and operating economics and design, and design, feasibility study, form optimization. Design methods, design through statistics and systematic analysis, and design from similar backgrounds. Creativity in design, decision-making techniques, and design synthesis. Ship weight groups, capacity calculations, power in design, vibration, noise, stability, seekeeping and maneuvering standards, freeboard, and tonnage calculations, national and international rules and standards, security in design, fire safety, and life safety. General arrangement design. Supporting topics with CAD programs.

Course Description

1. To introduce engineering design concepts and methods,
2. Demonstrating creativity methods and developing a creative thinking style through group work,
3. To introduce the stages, methods, and tools of ship design,
4. To develop information about the ship's sections, types, general layout, and system integration,
5. To introduce the social, technical, and economic constraints of ship design and relevant maritime rules,
6. To develop skills to analyze design requirements find satisfactory solutions to problems and reach results using decision-making methods,
7. To develop presentation and writing skills to report technical and feasible studies,
