Course Objectives The aim of this course is to help students develop the concepts and ideas related to statistics and probability that they will need at a basic level, and to improve their statistical thinking and reasoning skills.
Course Description Basic concepts related to probability, types of probability, probability simulations, and probability distributions; data collection, organization of data, representation and analysis, the concept of distribution, frequency distributions, measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion; teaching these topics (organizing the course content, using appropriate teaching materials and strategies, etc.); student knowledge on these topics (understanding, interpreting student thought on the concepts, knowing the difficulties, mistakes, misconceptions students have and the reasons for these); the relationship of these topics with daily life and other courses.
Course Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
Understand the basic concepts of probability theory and apply them to engineering problems.
Grasp and develop the applications of statistics in various engineering fields.
Evaluate and solve real-life processes and problems using statistical applications.
Perform statistical analyses using an appropriate statistical software package.
Pre-requisite(s) There are no prerequisites for this course.
