Course Objectives

Transfer of fundamental knowledge on;
1. microbial metabolism and its components,
2. major microbial metabolic pathways,
3. interactions between metabolic groups,
4. microbial strategies for control and optimization of existence and functioning

Course Description

This course provides fundamental knowledge on the following topics: Cell chemistry and biosynthesis; Energy and carbon flow in metabolism and central metabolic pathways; Catabolic diversity: chemolithotrophy, fermentation and syntrophy, chemoorganotrophy under aerobic/anoxic respiring conditions; Control of metabolic processes; Microbial response to stress conditions
