Course Objectives
I- Gain the concepts used in the radio communications
II- Determine the RF system blocks
III- Investigate the noise, interference and distortion effects in RF systems
IV- Gain the ability of designing and analyzing of RF transmission systems, radars, remote sensing and other microwave systems.
Course Description
Radio communications; system concepts, propagation and noise.
Analog and digital modulation in RF systems.
Transmitters and receivers. Passive components: Transmisson lines, matching techniques, filters. Amplifiers, oscillators and other active components.
Noise and non-linear distortion.
Modern transmitter and receiver architectures. Downconverter design.
Microwave network analysis and design. Antennas, RF link parameters and channel modelling.
RF link design. Wireless and cellular communication system architecture. Generations of wireless systems. Radar and radiometer systems.
Syncronization, diversity and advanced transmission techniques.
System design examples: GPS and satellite systems.
Course Outcomes
I- To define systems in radio communication
II- To solve the transmission line problems and to apply impedance matching techniques.
III- To design filters and active microwave components / circuits.
IV- To understand modern transmitter and receiver structures and design principles.
V- To design fixed, mobile and satellite RF links.
