UUM 549 - Theory of Fracture and Fatigue

Course Objectives

To understand the crack initiation and growth mechanism in various engineering materials

To predict fracture behavior and understanding failure mechanisms in engineering materials

Understanding the fatigue damage and analysis

To study modes of loading, low cycle and high cycle fatigue

To investigate multiaxial fatigue loading anaylsis

Course Description

The course covers the fundamentals of Engineering Fracture Mechanics & Fatigue. The concepts of estimation of the endurance and failure mechanism of aerospace applications of structural components will be studied. From this perspective the course will have a content as, crack growth and fracture mechanisms. failures that triggered the birth of fracture mechanics, modes of loading investigation of linear elastic and elastic-plastic fracture mechanics (LEFM and EPFM), low cycle fatigue (LCF) and high cycle fatigue (HCF).
