Course Objectives
To understand the crack initiation and propoagation mechanisms in various engineering materials
To investigate the fracture mechanism and behavior in engineering materials
To understand and analyze the fatigue damage
Course Description
In this class, theory of fatigue and fracture mechanics will be addressed in a comprehensive manner and their applications to structural components of aerospace vehicles. In this scope, crack initiation and growth will be analyzed using linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) and elasto-plastic fracture mechanics (EPFM) approaches.
