Course Objectives To learn/teach all fluid mechanics knowledge needed in theoretical and experimental system analysis in Hydraulics, Water Resources and Coastal-Marine Engineering. To show how to use this theoretical basic information at micro scale in the design and stability analysis of Hydraulic, Water Structures and Coastal-Marine Structures.
Course Description Basic Equations: Continuity and Equations of Motion, Forces and Acceleration
Stress-Strain Relation (Body Equation), Euler, Bernoulli and Navier-Stokes Equation.
Potential Flow Theory: Physics of Uncirculated Flow, Potential and Flow Functions, Flow Networks
Current and Potential Functions in Axisymmetric Currents
Circulation and Circulation: Definition of Circulation, Circulation Pipes, Circulation Layer, Free Circulation
Simple Potential Flows: Uniform Flow, Two-Dimensional Well and Source
Superposition of Simple Systems: Flow Around a Cylinder, Lift Force on the Cylinder.
Boundary Layer: Circulation Diffusion Equation, Boundary Layer on a Flat Plate, Boundary Layer Thickness
Boundary Layer Equations
Separation in the Boundary Layer
Course Outcomes Traces: Relevant Physics, Frequency of Translations, Trace Equations
