DEP 616E - Strong Gound Motion

Course Objectives

1. To provide students theoretical and practical knowledge to understand rupture process of earthquake and seismic wave propagation and their relations with the recorded ground motions.
2. To learn the basic skills for strong motion measurements, processing and interpretation
3. To develop abilities of scaling and matching earthquake records
4. To have a background about simulation and modeling of strong ground motion

Course Description

Physics of Earthquakes, Elasticity and Seismic Waves, Seismic Instruments, Strong Motion Networks, Time and Frequency Domain Characteristics of Strong Motion Records, Processing and Interpretation, Scaling of Ground Motion Records, Principles of Strong Motion Simulation Techniques.
