UUM 622E - Hypersonic Aerodynamics
Course Objectives
• Develop an understanding of inviscid hypersonic flows, viscous hypersonic flows and high temperature effects as they apply to hypersonic aerodynamics
• Introduce the specialized phenomena encountered in hypersonic flows
• Introduce some classical and modern analysis methods, along with standard results from theory, computation, and experiment
• Prepare the student to identify key hypersonic issues and candidate analysis methods
• Prepare the student to carry out more detailed studies in the future as needed
Course Description
Introduction to hypersonic flow. Inviscid hypersonic flow: hypersonic shock and expansion-wave relations, local surface inclination methods, approximate and exact methods. Viscous hypersonic flow: basic aspects, boundary layer results, and aerodynamic heating. High temperature gas dynamics: physical chemistry, statistical thermodynamics, kinetic theory
