Course Objectives
1. To give a solid understanding of the fundamental aspects of molecular physical chemistry and the statistical thermodynamics
2. To teach how to apply the principles of molecular physical chemistry on some particular chemical problems
3. To give a solid understanding of the relationship between the structure and thermodynamical properties
Course Description
Quantum mechanical solutions of model systems, Potential energy surface and Its relation to 3N space, Theory of Intermolecular Interactions, Chaotic systems, Partition function, Phase space, Fundamental equations of statistical mechanics, Derivation and application of thermodynamic equations, Thermodynamics of chemical processes, Theory of solids, The electromagnetic properties of matter, Theoretical derivation of vapor pressure and surface tension, Theory or real gases, Theory of liquids, Phase transitions, Eyring’s Theory of reaction rates, Material equilibrium, Non-equilibrium processes.
