Course Objectives
1-To examine propagation properties of optical waveguides within a general framework.
2- To obtain solutions of optical waveguides using analytical and numerical methods.
Course Description
Introduction: Aim and scope of the course. Optical waveguides: planar structures, dielectric waveguides, fibers. Canonical problems and their exact analytical solutions, geometrical optics approximations, perturbational methods, purely numerical solution techniques. Dispersive and non-linear effects in optical waveguides. Non-uniform optical waveguides.
