CBM 534 - Specific Subjects of Water Management

Course Objectives

The goals of the course are as follows:
1. Provide to comprehend special issues on water management in detail and to set up a scientific infrastructure for the implementation,
2. Ensure that relations between different subjects of water management are realized,
3. Gain infrastructure for the implementation of some special subjects of water management in a scientific way on a river basin level.

Course Description

Principles of water body determination; identification of river basin water potential; principles of the selection of appropriate crop pattern and determination of irrigation water needs at river basin level; designation of ecological flows on river basin/sub basin level; determination of sensitive water body in terms of nutrients parameters, determination of environmental quality standards; determination of assimilation capacities of water bodies; implementation of total maximum daily load approach for surface water resources; identification of pollutants with a potential of deteriorating the genetic structure and endocrine system in terms of aquatic environment; derivation of threshold values for ground waters; determination of ground water bodies at risk and specification of protection principles; control of algae and cyanobacteria in surface waters; principles of developing biologic index and ecological assessment system; principles of developing hydromorphological index and hydromorphological assessment system; interaction of lake and wetlands with ground waters; determination of river basin drought index, indicator and threshold values; analysis of sectorial affectability for drought periods.
