Course Objectives • To teach the concept of philosophy and its history as an overview
• Te teach the relationship between philosophy and music concretely.
• To form the conceptualization of the student on understanding and evaluating music from the perspective of philosophy
• To understand philosophical approaches on music from the period of ancient times to new and modern ages philosophers
• To attain to the level of writing articles on music philospohy
Course Description Introducing the history of philosophy and philosophical trends through understanding the concept of philosophy completely. Manifesting that music has a profound philosophical dimension by understanding the meeting point between music and philosophy. Teaching musical ideas and approaches of major philosophers from old to modern ages. To inform about philosophical trends and studying music through them.
Course Outcomes Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge skills and competencies;
I. Knowledge of the concept of philosophy, the history and the periods of philosophy; the approaches of philosophers about music
II. Competency on meaning sound and melody from the perspective of philosophy
III. Knowledge on the relation between music and philosophy through learning the history of philosophy and music
IV. Knowledge on musical approaches and concepts of Islamic philosophy and tasavvuf through the ideas of Enlightenment and Modernism.
V. Knowledge and competency on gaining an intellectual background on music philosophy and accessing to the level of writing articles on the issue.
