IKT 510E - International Economics

Course Objectives

The objectives of the course are to provide an understanding at the graduate level of:
• The determinants of international trade, including the implications of imperfect competition in international markets
• The costs, and possible benefits, of a protectionist policy towards international trade.
• The links between theoretical models and empirical work on international trade.
• The determinants of international capital flows leading to multinational corporations.
• The impact of trade and capital flows on balance of payments problems of countries.

Course Description

In this course, the main theories of international trade and international trade policy together with more recent issues such as trade in services will be explained using theoretical models.
