Course Objectives
• To identify and analyze the main references used in the scientific research on musicology,
• To learn preparing methods of bibliography and classifying them
• To conceive qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques in social sciences and identify the practices on musicology discipline.
Course Description
Meaning of research, its importance in practice and education; research areas related to art and music; concepts of method and methodology; scientific, linguistic and philosophical bases of research. Basic sources for research in music and research techniques. Sources such as bibliographies, music dictionaries, encyclopedias, periodicals, electronic sources, manuscripts.
Course Outcomes
Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge, skills and competencies;
I. Competency on scientific thinking and expression in musical researches.
II. Knowledge on grounding music writings through philosophical trends and theories.
III. Knowledge on basic research methods for individual research projects.
IV. Skill on writing scientific articles contributing to musicology literature of Turkey as the result of applied researches at the course.
