1 Introduction and outline of the course. Definition of industrial electronic systems.
2 Ideal switch requirement, realization of switches using power semiconductor devices. Main characteristics (voltage and current - VI curve) and application areas of power diode, bipolar junction transistor (BJT), silicon controlled rectifier (SCR), thyristor, triac, power MOSFET, insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT)
3 AC to DC converters: rectifiers, single-phase uncontrolled and controlled, half wave and full wave, three phase rectifiers, using capacitors and inductors as filters in power supplies.
4 Rectifiers continued. Power control in AC circuits, AC choppers, resistive and inductive loads.
5 DC choppers, DC to DC converters, overview of DC voltage conversion, linear and switched mode power supplies, single-quadrant and two-quadrant choppers, step-down (buck), step-up (boost) choppers, buck-boost. Isolated DC to DC converters: half-bridge, full-bridge, flyback, forward converters..
6 Inverters: changing DC voltage to AC voltage. square-wave single-phase inverters, three-phase and six-step inverters, variable output voltage inverter, pulse width modulated (PWM) inverters.
7 Firing circuits for controlled semiconductor power switches, unijunction transistor, diac, silicon bilateral switch (SBS).
8 Operational amplifiers, differential amplifier, instrumentation amplifier.
9 Signal generator circuits: relaxation oscillators, principles of square, sine, triangular, and saw-tooth waveforms, wien-bridge oscillator, timer circuits, comparators, relay circuits.
10 Filtering requirements, Fourier series representation to illustrate a waveform in frequency domain, low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, wideband and notch filters.

12 Signal conditioning circuits, voltage-to-current and current-to-voltage conversion, amplifiying and saling operations of signals, isolation requirements and optocouplers
13 rcuit layout and electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems, interference between low power control circuits and high power sections, common-mode and differential-mode noise in electronic circuits, methods to prevent noises and usage chokes.
