Dersin Tanımı
This course examines the impact of transformations associated with the concept of ‘globalization’ on the social, political, economic, and cultural life in Turkey. It investigates key issues such as political economy, security, identity, culture, and the environment by contextualizing them within the broader, systematic changes that are taking place at the global level. What sort of transformations does the concept of ‘globalization’ try to capture? What kind of questions do these transformations raise about global politics in general? How do these questions translate to the Turkish context? How is national interest being re-defined by political elites? Is there a break or continuity in the framing of geo-political questions? How is the Turkish economy being re-structured under neoliberal globalization, with what consequences? In what ways does the globalization of insecurities transform security discourse and practices in Turkey? How does globalization shape politics of identity and belonging? Sections of the course will be framed around these central questions.
