DEN 431E - Gemi ve Deniz Yapıları Mukavemeti

Dersin Amaçları

1.to recognize the sources of environmental loads, structural response types, and failure mode forms in ships
2.to understand the performance of ship structural components in separate response levels
3.to study the strength of hull girder for assessing the ship global response and evaluate various configurations
4.to appreciate the assumptions imposed during ship structural analyses, their grounds and also limitations
5.to analyze and design transverse frames for ensuring the ship’s transverse strength
6.to turn structural problems to idealized models, which are realistic enough but easy to work on
7.to acquire fundamental knowledge for bending of beams, plates, and stiffened panels as well as buckling of columns, plates, and stiffened panels, and perform related applications as part of ship structures
8.to understand the complex organization of the ship structure by concentrating on the behavior of various components and their mutual relations

Dersin Tanımı

The aim of this course is to introduce the fundamental steps in ship structural design and analysis, and provide practical applications of the concepts. Through the course, strength of the hull girder as well as principal structural components (e.g. beams, plates, frames, etc.) will be studied, with reviewing the topics in 'mechanics of materials' and ‘theory of structures’ when necessary.
