2. To explain the architecture of a long-standing orogenic belt and its evolution.
Course Description
Pontides: İstanbul Zone, Strandja Massif, Sakarya Zone. Thrace Basin, Çankırı Basin. Anatolide-Taurides: Tavşanlı Zone, Afyon Zone, Menderes Massif, Bornova Flysch Zone, Taurides. Southeast Anatolia – Arabian Platform. Extensional tectonics: Aegean Sea, grabens and Kazdağ. Oligocene strike-slip tectonics: Uludağ. Seas: Marmara, Aegean, Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean. Neotectonics of Turkey. Extensional tectonics in the World: Basin and Range province (USA), East African rift system. Contractional tectonics in the World: Himalaya, California. Strike-slip tectonics: San Andreas Fault System.
