TER 201 - Thermodynamics

Course Objectives

1. To teach students the basic principles and terminology of energy conversions,
2. To demonstrate the thermal design basics of engineering systems,
3. To develop students' analysis, application and communication skills in this field.

Course Description

Pure substance and its properties. Perfect and real gases. Energy, heat, work. Conservation of energy, application to closed and open systems. Heat machine. The second law of thermodynamics. Carnot principles. Clausius inequality, entropy. The principle of the increase of entropy. Exergy, second law analysis. Gas fluid power cycles. Steam power cycles. Refrigeration cycles, heat pump.
