Course Objectives

• Understanding the chemical and physical basics of materials science,
• understanding the importance of reliable structural and functional materials for engineering applications,
• understanding the properties, structures and production processes of materials and their relationships, and
• understanding correct material selection and material design for successful industrial applications.

• Mechanical and physical properties of engineering materials
• Solid-state diffusion
• Phase diagrams and solidification
• Heat treatment of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys
• Electrical, optical, thermal and magnetic properties associated with electron bond structures of materials
• Metallic corrosion and corrosion protection
