Course Objectives 1. To teach basic concepts of environmental chemistry
2. To provide an ability to apply methods for the determination of pollution parameters
3. To provide an ability to interpret analysis results
Course Description Methods for sampling and sample preservation. Solids. Alkalinity. Acidity. Total hardness. Dissolved oxygen. Biochemical oxygen demand. Chemical oxygen demand. Total Kjeldahl nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen. Total phosphorous. Oil and grease. Instrumental analysis: Chromatographic methods of analysis. High volume particulate sampling, elemental analysis. Emission measurements.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course successfully will be able to:
I. Use basic concepts of environmental chemistry
II. Assess the pollution parameters
III. Use equipment and instrumentation
IV. Comment on the environmental pollution
