Course Objectives 1. To define the duties and responsibilities of the marine engineer.
2. To give general information on ships, engine rooms and marine engine types and auxiliaries.
3. To form the base upon which future engineering classes will build.
4. To teach the importance of individual freedom universal dimensions of ethic.
5. To teach the universal ethical principles, values and leadership.
Course Description Merchant ships and classification. Authorizations, duties and responsibilities of the marine engineer. Classification of marine engines. Steam boilers. Steam turbines. Gas turbines. Diesel engines. Marine auxiliary machineries. Deck machinery. The philosophical foundations of ethic. Engineering and society-human relationship. Examples of ethical rules. Leadership.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to;
I. Learn general information about ships and identify types of ships.
II. Learn the duties and responsibilities of the marine engineer.
III. Identify marine engines.
IV. Identify marine auxiliary machineries.
V. Comprehend of professional and ethical responsibilities and learn about effective decision making and leadership.
