Course Objectives
To learn the general concepts of volcanism and to understand how, why and where volcanism develops and the formation of associated natural resources. In addition, to gain the ability to identify different volcanic products.
Course Description
Within the scope of this course which is a general introduction to volcanism, the principals of the volcanic processes, the concept of volcanism and the geologic processes leading to the volcanism are discussed. The course also gives an answer to the question of what we can learn about the Earth from studying volcanoes and it provides a perspective to the subjects regarding to the economically important underground resources, natural disasters and possible risks associated with volcanism through ancient and current examples of volcanoes and volcanic activities
Course Outcomes
Successful students,
1- Understands the relationship between the volcanism and geologic processes using the knowledge gained from the previous courses,
2- Can gain the ability to recognize various volcanic materials,
3- Can gain the perspective to contribute to the solution of the various problems related to the exploration and utilization of the mineral resources, industrial raw materials, geothermal resources and, prediction of the natural disasters.
