JEF 408E - Seismotectonics

Course Objectives

1. To provide students with basic knowledge of earthquake seismology, and seismotectonics.

2. To develop skills to improve understanding of the plate tectonic puzzle, and governing forces, and deformations along the main plate boundaries: earthquake source parameters and fault plane solutions.

3. To improve the understanding of numerical interpretations of plate motions, seismicity and distribution of stress regime within the lithosphere.

Course Description

The structural elements of the Earth’s interior will be discussed. Seismotectonics case studies will be thought along with earthquake seismology observations and the theory of plate
tectonics.
