UUM 536 - partial differential equations

Course Objectives

To solve first order ordinary differential equations.

To solve second order linear ordinary differential equations.

To identify and understand the solutions of Bessel and Legendre equations.

To identify and understand first order lineer partial differential equations

To identify and understand first order nonlineer partial differential equations

To identify and understand the solutions of Laplace, Poisson, heat and wave equations using various methods.

Course Description

First order ODEs. Second order linear ODEs. Bessel and Legendre equations. Sturm-Liouville theorem. Orthogonal functions. Laplace and Fourier transformations. Partial differential equatioms. First order lineer and nonlineer partial differential equations. High order constant coeeficients homogenuous partial differential equations.Solution of initial and/or boundary value problems of Laplace, Poisson, heat and wave equations by separation of variables and Laplace and Fourier transformations.
