JEO 630E - Biomineralization

Course Objectives

Revealing microbial diversity in a variety of geological environments
Evaluate microbes-mineral interactions
Revealing biosignatures in modern and past geological records

Course Description

Biomineralization refers processes undertaken by micro/organims producing minerals. Since the dawn of life on Earth , micro/organisms have play significant roles in mineral formation shaping the Earth surface. While micro/organims shaping the Earth surface, they have regulated many biogeochemical processes. Biosignatures are considered one of the most important archives of these unique processes and will be rigirously examined during the class
