HGP 509 - Textile and Apparel Production and Management
Course Objectives
This course provides an overview of product development, processing, managing, etc., for the textile and apparel industry. It is designed to give new graduate students basic preparations for more advanced, required field courses. Course objectives are as follows:
1. To develop an understanding about textile and apparel materials and products in relation to their structures, production processes and end use fields
2. To provide knowledge about organizational behavior of textile and apparel firms
3. To provide technical knowledge for the units and basic calculations involved in textile and apparel merchandising
4. To introduce principles, concepts and current technologies used in apparel production management
Course Description
Structures and production methods for fibers, yarns, fabrics and apparels. Diverse textile end-uses, including apparel, home textiles, technical textiles. Principal units and calculations used in textile and apparel trade. Overview of textile, apparel and fashion industries. Organizations of textile and apparel firms. Intro. to apparel production management: production package planning and production processes including sourcing, assembly and finishing, and packaging and distribution. Current technologies used in the apparel industry for product development, production planning and logistics.
