Course Objectives 1. To develop an understanding of aesthetic elements and principles of apparel design, including color, line, shape, texture, space, proportion, balance, unity, rhythm, and the Gestalt theory.
2. To develop an understanding of aesthetic elements and principles of visual merchandising, including color, line, shape, texture, space, proportion, balance, unity, rhythm, and the Gestalt theory.
3. Based on socio-cultural and psychological factors, to provide an understanding of aesthetic preferences of consumers.
Course Description This course will explore principles and elements of aesthetics influencing apparel design and merhandising. In addition to that, aesthetic response of apparel consumers will be analyzed based on socio-cultural and psychological factors.
Course Outcomes Students who pass this course will have the following knowledge and abilities:
I. Ability to develop knowledge of terminology, principles, and concepts related to aesthetics of apparel
II. Ability to identify aesthetics of apparel products and to apply them to the development of apparel products and fashion merchandising plans
III. Ability to recognize aesthetic preferences of different consumer segments in fashion industry
IV. Ability to recognize influences of socio-cultural and psychological factors on perception of aesthetics of apparel products
