TEK 543 - Advanced Research Methods in Engineering

Course Objectives

The objective of the course is to provide and teach the followings:
1. The knowledge on current research methods and their applications in field of engineering.
2. The approaches used to identify research problems based on the current state of art and literature.
3. The knowledge needed to design, plan and construct a research process feasible to answer research questions.
4. The knowledge on data collection and analysis methods for the best practices to address research problems, to interpret and conclude the results.
5. The ways used to present and communicate the results of a research in an appropriate formats and contexts with ethical conduct and accountability

Course Description

Research theory and practice, key components and definitions, ways of conducting research, research formats, research concept in the field of engineering. Literature search, review and citation practices. Research framework, identification of the research topic, formulating research questions. Ethical issues in scientific research. Methods for research design: quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods. Sampling principles and techniques. Methods for data analysis: some elementary and advanced statistics, special tools and models. Scientific reporting and presentation of research
