To introduce theoretical fundamentals of solid mechanics
To give advanced information about mathematical analysis of elastic behavior
Course Description
Stress and deformation tensors. Generalized Hooke’s law. Beam theories: Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy beam theories. Plate theories: Kirchoff, Mindlin and Reddy plate theories. Circular and annular plates. Large deformation theory: Lagrangian and Eulerian deformation relations. 2-dimansional elasticity and Airy stress function. Contact stresses and Hertz stresses. Damage modes. Foundations of fracture mechanics. Stress concentration factors. Introduction to damage mechanics. Membrane behavior. Viscoelastic materials. Plastic Limit Analysis.
