Course Objectives
1. To teach Solar Radiation and angle calculations,
2. To introduce solar energy systems in the context of environmental necessity,
3. To teach the operating and design conditions required for floating structures,
4. To teach the rules and requirements in maritime,
5. Introducing smart solar systems.
Course Description
Renewable energy technologies; Marine contracts and strategies for green marine structures; Solar radiation
and angle calculations; Solar modules; Floating structures and platforms; Test standards for floating
photovoltaic modules; Managing environmental impacts specific to floating solar photovoltaic systems;
Inverters; Cable management; Operations of floating structures, risk assessment and hazard control,
emergencies; Checklists for facility design, Smart/ digital solar energy systems.
Course Outcomes
M.Sc./Ph.D. students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skill and competency in the
following subjects;
1. Learns the environmental contributions of renewable energy sources and systems.
2. Learns the international maritime rules for emission reduction of international maritime transport.
3. Learns solar radiation calculations, which is the energy source of photovoltaic modules.
4. Learns angle calculations, which are important in solar radiation reaching photovoltaic modules.
5. Learns the properties of solar photovoltaic modules in floating structures.
6. Learns the test standards and designs of solar photovoltaic modules in floating structures.
7. Understand the operation, emergency and risk assessment of solar photovoltaic modules in floating
structures.
8. Knows the software and hardware information about smart solar energy systems.
